In the last year, I had a couple of hair obsessions and one of them was to find the best clear hair gloss on the market. I wanted that glass hair look, but without the greasiness that a lot of shine sprays and masks can leave on my fine hair.
Hair gloss is a treatment that has historically been more likely at a hair salon, and often they add some color to your hair which can make the process a little more complex—the stakes just become a lot higher when you’re also depositing some dye on your hair!
Thankfully there are lots of clear hair gloss options at home now so you’re only going to give your hair lots of healthy shine. It’s such an easy way to elevate your hair and make it look healthy and I swear more people don’t do it just because they haven’t heard of it.
If you’re looking for healthy, glossy hair, a clear hair gloss is the way to do it! If you’re looking for the best clear hair gloss for your needs, these are the best ones I’ve tried.
How Does Hair Gloss Work?
Hair gloss at a salon is generally semi-permanent and lasting for several weeks and it gives your hair some subtle color and lots of shine. Clear glosses just add the shine, as well as some softness and the look of really healthy strands.
Hair gloss sets the hair’s cuticle which gives it a smooth and shiny appearance. Glosses are known for their benefits to color-treated hair because they help prevent fade and when they have color they can neutralize brassy tones from the hair, but non-color-treated hair can also benefit from the high-shine effects.
How to Use Clear Hair Gloss Treatments At-Home
Hair glosses are pretty easy to use. After you shampoo, you’ll get the best results if you squeeze the water out of your hair which will let the gloss penetrate your hair cuticles. Then apply the hair gloss to the mid-lengths and ends of your hair. Once it’s fully covered, let sit for however long the product tells you, typically between 3 and 20 minutes. Then, rinse out! You can use conditioner afterwards if it’s necessary, otherwise the hair gloss has a lot of conditioning properties itself and you may not need a separate conditioner to detangle your hair.
And the best news is: they’re perfectly safe to use on any type of hair. The products on this best clear hair gloss list will not weigh down fine, thin hair, nor will the effects be invisible on thick, textured or curly hair. So no matter what you’ve got, clear hair gloss will give you some much-desired shine.
