Amika’s products span from haircare to hairstyling and even to hair styling tools, but some of their most-loved products are their shampoos and conditioners. They have a set for nearly every concern from hair thickening to smoothing to adding shine. One of their most popular, however, is their Normcore Shampoo and Conditioner Set.

I’ve used a lot of Amika’s products and loved a lot of them too, like their hair masks, blowout spray, and volumizing mousse. I was interested to try one of their shampoo and conditioner sets since they have so many and are so popular.

While not drugstore price, Amika’s products are relatively affordable for a premium haircare line and they have some solid ingredients and fun packaging. Read on to see my thoughts after having tried the Normcore Shampoo and Conditioner.

Amika Normcore: How To Know If It’s For You

The Amika Normcore Shampoo and Conditioner is great for so-called “normal” hair, meaning hair that is not too dry nor too oily. Amika says it is ideal for fine-medium hair types. It claims to gently cleanse the hair while also nourishing it and adding softness.

Still, it can be confusing to understand if this is the best Amika shampoo and conditioner for you since there are so many. Here’s how to decide:

If your primary concern is protecting color and adding shine: Mirrorball Shampoo and Conditioner

If you suffer from dryness from scalp to the ends of your hair, all the time: Hydro Rush Shampoo and Conditioner

If your hair is dull and damaged from heat or wear and tear: The Kure Shampoo and Conditioner

If you struggle with an oily scalp: Reset Clarifying Gel Shampoo

If you blonde hair that is turning yellow: Bust Your Brass Shampoo and Conditioner

If your hair is constantly frizzy: Velveteen Dream Shampoo and Conditioner

If you have hair that is flat and thin: 3D Volume a& Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner

If you have flakiness, itchiness, or buildup: Reset Exfoliating Jelly Shampoo

I’m also a big proponent of mixing and matching your shampoo and conditioner from different sets so you can find the right shampoo for your scalp and the right conditioner for your hair.

Amika Normcore Shampoo Ingredients

The Amika Normcore Shampoo is sulfate-free and color safe. It contains coconut acid which helps to lather and conditioner. It also uses sea buckthorn which is found in many of Amika’s products which is rich in omega-7 fatty acids which add moisture and strength to hair.

Amika Normcore Shampoo Scent

I can’t go much further without mentioning the Normcore shampoo scent—it’s one of the main reasons for purchasing in my opinion! The scent is noticeable but not overbearing. It’s a combination of orange, grapefruit blossom, sandalwood spice, geranium and rose. It also has some amber, tonic bean and vanilla which gives it a little warmth. Overall it’s a very playful juicy-floral scent.

Amika Normcore Shampoo Lather

The shampoo has a kind of medium lather that smells really nice. Amika recommends doing a double cleanse, basically shampooing rinse repeat, to get the best clean from the shampoo. I think this is a great idea of you have a lot of buildup, an oily scalp, or just generally want to make sure you are cleaning as thoroughly as possible to avoid any product and oil buildup.

Amika Normcore Conditioner Review

I love this conditioner. Besides its gorgeous scent, it’s great for detangling and adding softness without weighing down my hair. For my fine-medium hair it’s awesome for adding softness. It’s comparable to many conditioners I’ve tried that are specifically for dry hair in how well it conditions.

My Review of the Amika Normcore Shampoo and Conditioner

Pros

  • Smells amazing but not overwhelming
  • Conditioner is great for detangling, softness
  • Keeps colored hair protected
  • Comes in multiple sizes where you want a travel size, jumbo, or refillable

Cons

  • For fine-medium hair that suffers from oiliness or flat hair there are better options

Who I Recommend Amika Normcore Shampoo and Conditioner For

The Amika Normcore Shampoo and Conditioner set is perfect for those with fine or medium hair who suffer from some dryness or none at all, and who aren’t concerned about an oily scalp or flat hair. For those concerns I think using their 3D shampoo and conditioner or their Reset Shampoo are great options.

If you aren’t sure which shampoo and conditioner set to use, this is a great place to start. If you find you want something to give you a deeper clean, the 3D and reset are good options. However if you find that your hair is still too dry after using the Normcore set, either the Hydro Rush for dryness or The Kure set for damage are great.

Amika has also recently come out with refillable shampoo and conditioner bottles and refill packages so you don’t need to buy a new bottle each time. It helps to reduce your impact on the environment.

Amika Normcore Shampoo Review Conclusion

This is the first shampoo I’ve tried from Amika despite having liked a lot of their other products. This is a great middle-of-the-road shampoo and conditioner set for those with normal hair or who want a gentle cleanse and some soft nourishment.
